Genesis

In the beginning, there was MinecraftOnline. One time, it has shut down dues to a DDOS attack, which forced many people to either take a break from playing Minecraft constantly and touch some grass for once in their lives, or find an alternative server to play on. MinecraftOffline was launched soon after but the MCO team, but it wasn't too successful. A cool guy I know, SiOtter decided to revive an old survival server of his, Ottawa. It didn't last too long, until the gracious Moxieskip crafted her world for us to enjoy

Ephemeros

Upon joining the server, I have encountered a very lovely and charming world, that's only beginning to develop. There were many people, a lot more than you can see nowadays; most of them came only due to MCO's spontaneous shutoff. Most wouldn't stay, but nobody was thinking about that. I, after joining got some food at the spawn farm, and ventured off to find some locations. More specifically, I tried using /warp, which has changed its list a lot, since when I joined.

At the time, there was only one warp, something to do with testing. I warped there and found myself in a village, kilometers away from spawn. From there I boated back, as I still had a goal in mind. I wanted to find a huge cliffface to build a base at; it was something, I accidentally stumbled upon in my short time on Ottawa, and I liked it so much, I decided to find one here. And so, without even using the live map, merely by boating from spawn I found a nice cliff chain. Actually, screw that, I found it on the live map, and then saw a far nicer cliff just right next (a bit south of) the first one! There, I have settled, on my cute little fishing boat, staring at the gigantic wall of rock.

Dexioticos

As the server evolved, so did its community. It stopped being a place for people seeking a temporary MCO, and became a world of its own (and also a refuge for people feeing MCO). I witnessed many fun moments of warmth and friendliness from people playing on the server after MCO went back up. Around this time, my little cliff adjacent boat got itself a cliff endocated train station. This turned this little boat base into a little town in the very near future, making a bunch of people join. I had decided that I'll open an infrastruction construction firm in the middle of town, but I didn't act on it for so long, that the plan for it got torn down. I was sick at the time, that I had an excuse for its inexistance. I still haven't opened the shop. A couple giant animals were born on the server, although only one remains to this day.

Evangelion

The server is public. I got myself involved in constructiong a railway to a very unfinished town, called OBlock. It is still not finished, and will probably never be complete, so the rail is mostly a leftover from the early days of the server ⇐ the more you know. My goal was to both help Elextrast and get an example project that I've worked in for the construction business. Later, as the server evolved, an incident happened. Me and my friend Seán were on the server, and at one point, when Elextrast was building his library. At the same time, he was breeding a ridiculous amount of chickens for some reason. Seán, among the chickens, and me were spectating. And then, Moxie happened, started striking Seán with lightnings and explosions. Afterwards, she turned a chicken massive, giving birth to Chicken Grand. He was killed by Elex, but after asking Moxie to revive him, he was once again alive. We transported him into a safe space and a following around his story emerged. As the goddess Moxie tinkered and empowered the Chicken more and more, it was decided that he needed ultimate protection. A dome was constructed with godly power in the deepest ocean, to serve as a refugium for the chosen chicken. There, he resides to this day.

Neon

The future is today, and the server is open! The great race to the new world border happened on the 29th of November 2024, as it was expanded from 6500 to 100 000 blocks. At the tine, we didn't know that, so it was up to the winner of the race to figure that out. Due to the immense lag, caused by everyone exploring new terrain, moving was excruciatingly slow for everyone. Everyone, but me. The lag also made firework rockets unusable in unloaded chunks, which we often faceplanted through. I thought that going higher would give me more time in the air, and thus less rockets used and more distance travelled. I went up so high, in fact, that chunks beneath me didn't load at all, causing me to fly uninterrupted by their boundaries at full speed. I used this to my advantage and arrived at the 100K border fist, despite dying halfway through. Now only time shall tell, what is to come, which will most definitely be added to this page in a new chapter,

Peridos

I have said to myself, not to update this page until this chapter is completed. This chapter is a journey, one that took 3 months to complete (I expected only 1 month..), and its results are most likely not worth it. “Peridos” means map, and what this section encompasses, is my struggle to create one. This idea was born when the server launched, and comprised of two goals - to make a render of Moxiecraft using the Minecraft Overviewer, which looks much nicer than Dynmap, and to archive the state of the server immediately after its launch. I now was making an Overviewer render of Moxiecraft, specifically its world download from the 1st December 2024.

I began with a test render, creating Moxiecraft without light. After trying out the program with the world once, I realised that I had to limit its resources, so only half of this laptop's processor was allocated to it. Now, it was just the matter of waiting. Sadly, I have a life and I cannot let the laptop be running 24/7, so the render was only finished halfway through the month. There, I realised that Moxiecraft took a ridiculous amount of storage - just the unlit render took 20GiB! I discovered that when attempting to copy the render just in case, but after seeing the number, I decided against that. Now, I just had to render day and night with lighting enabled, should be simple, right?

By the end of the month, Overviewer was telling me that I'd need over 1000 hours to complete the render… I just had to wait, I guessed. During the same time, as that was revealed to me (a day earlier actually), something incredible had happened. After refusing once, and then thinking over it after being offered the second time, I accepted the role of a moderator on this lovely server. That's right, this dude's got magical abilities now! This meant that I could now help stop griefers and other rulebreakers from destroying the server, but I was still in regular survival and couldn't enforce rule 4. As Christmas came and went, I had time to let the program do its thing, and before 2024 even ended, I had a complete render of Moxiecraft's beta area. Or did I?

After taking a look at the finished result, something glaringly obvious was wrong - there were large circles of darkness on the map. How does one fix something like that? Well, the Overviewer updates the map by checking for any changes in the world in all locations, and rerendering the parts, where changes have been made. This means, that all I had to do was to update the locations of those anomalies in some way. I tested a little bit, and figured that just adding / breaking a single grass block was sufficient to update most of the affected area. So, I did exactly that and slowly over the month of January, rerendered every broken spot, that I could find.

Before I finished the map, I went on a multitude of endeavours. These include things like farms on the server (some of which aren't yet completed), various builds, Clifftown wiki page, etc. The thing I'd like to focus on, is the server website. If you visit it right now, you will see a nice information panel about the server with a bunch of links at the top, stylised to be very Minecrafty with a Moxiecraft panorama in the background. That wasn't the case, as you might guess; it is me, who wrote the current Moxiecrfat website, as the old one was so terrible, I couldn't stand looking at it. So I have written this website, with pretty much the same idea as the final result in mind. Upon asking for suggestions and criticism, however, a new vision was born, and when the two were voted between, the new one won. This wasn't a big deal, as the difference is not too large, but it did make the website into what it is right now (if you go into F12 on the website, and change the stylesheet from “style-t.css” to “style.css” you will see the original. Although be warned, as it wasn't updated to support the flexibility the current design has).

At the time, some hints were sent my way about a new set of commands, that I might have to learn. With a sneaking suspicion, I was careful with the assumptions that I would cast. Alas, even the boldest ones, were proven correct. On the 19th Janvier 2025, this man has been granted divine powers by the other gods of this server (this is the Chicken Grand interpretation btw). And since those powers were obtained, they even were put to a good use. If anyone asks, how do I play Moxiecraft, I cannot say it's just survival anymore, but neither is it basically creative. I periodically switch between the two, depending on the task. So silly of me :P

Somewhere in Janvier, a visitor centre competition was held. I, unfortunately, do not know the result of it yet, but hopefully my design is chosen, as I put quite a bit of thinking into it. On the Overviewer note though, all the errors I found were corrected by February, so now the final step needed to be done - adding markers. The markers indicate the various settlements, transport options and other bits of information on the server. Today, on the 3rd of February 2025, I have completed this task, therefore completing the map, and this chapter as well.

You can clearly see, that this went on for way too long, as I created a lot of things, both on and off the server, and even got two promotions in this relatively short period of time haha. But the time has come for me to move on, as I have other things to do, like installing Linux onto this laptop, and making a Moxiecraft YouTube video. So, as far as ye all might assume, everything I mentioned and more, will be in the next chapter of this amazing saga! See ye all in Eleutheria
