== Terms of Residence ==
== The Laws of Clifftown ==
These are the conditions, you must agree to, to join the town. The ones listed here are the exact same ones that you can find ingame as they are, on the rules raft (small bamboo structure).
By building on the land in Clifftown, you agree to the following conditions. No, this is not real life, so we can enforce any clause we want. Global rules apply.

* You are allowed to take any unclaimed spot on/at the cliff to build a building
=== Section 1: Building ===
* An unclaimed spot is any spot that isn't used by a different player or set out to remain plain; a spot can be left plain by the one who claims it, but if needed, it can be unclaimed
* If your build isn't complete for a long enough period of time, that it is considered an eyesore by your neighbours, it can be removed upon their, the mayor's or my request (with prior warning of course)
* Any town resident is fully entitled to use of any community project that is built in the town
* Any player permanently modifying other player's builds is grief. Temporary scaffolding (not just scaffolding blocks) and water bucket clutching are allowed, but will be considered grief if the scaffolding blocks aren't removed in 5-10 minutes after the person, who placed them finished using them.
* Stealing from chests is unacceptable behaviour. You shall be publicly shamed.
* PvP is not permitted not in designated areas
* Player shops must have an enderchest close by
* Any adjustments to this agreement will be assumed to be argeed upon, unless stated otherwise by the person
* Any building on the Clifftown land will be seen as agreement to these terms period. If the person disagrees with the terms after reading them after they are updated, they do not need to remove their builds. Clifftown land is marked by a pink fence and is usually running along the road as its border

=== Extra Clarification ===
===== Paragraph '''A''': Basics =====
Clifftown is a semi-freebuild area; therefore, each build belongs to its builder, but the rights of ownership may be seised by the mayor in prosecution of public interest or the government's interest. This is specifically is used to clean up unfinished builds, but it may be applied in other special cases. The owner will be informed if that is possible ahead of time. One may object this decision prior to it being made. In special cases, the decision may be undone and an admin will help roll the build back.

* Building on water is permitted, as it is “at the cliff”.
===== Paragraph '''B''': Claims =====
** Behind the cliff is also still "at the cliff"
An individual may claim any spot on the cliff or on the adjacent land or water to create their build. One's claim is by default indefinite in size, unless bound by neighbouring builds or other markers. A claim within Clifftown may not exceed the boundaries of the town, and any such constructions shall be considered separate builds even if built by the same person in a unified timeframe.
* One's claim is indefinite in size unless bound by neighbours or other markers.
* The griefing rule is subject to server's grief rule: technically gives people permission to temporary building

Clifftown is an semi-freebuild area, where each build belongs to its builder, but the rights of ownership may be seised upon mayor's decision in persuasion of public interest. This specifically is used to clean unfinished builds, but may be applied to any other special case. ''You may object the'' ''decision.''
Certain areas of land might be claimed by the town entity and/or set out to be plain, which means one may not build there.

When banished, it is encouraged for the residents of Clifftown to actively murder the banished player if they step their foot into Clifftown. This is a single exception to the PvP rule. If a player deliberately refuses to kill the banished player, they themselves will receive a punishment (normally a fine, but it can escalate). One may also be banished for breaking server rules.

Clifftown (aka. Cliffside Town) was begun by 16.png Sweetcorm, when he, after leaving Ottawa, where he found an awesome cliff face, upon which he thought he'd build a nice house, tried to find one on Moxiecraft. Fortunately, after some searching, he found one. Albeit, not this one, actually. He merely followed a river until he saw some rocky shores of an ocean. After using the live map for the fist time though and finding that location, he spotted a significantly more impressive looking wall of rock to the south, where he eventually settled on his little fisher boat. When did that occur? In the fist week of the server's existance, on the first of October. After that, on the 13th, the rail connection was created, after which this place has slowly been getting inhabited by more and more people

The Laws of Clifftown

By building on the land in Clifftown, you agree to the following conditions. No, this is not real life, so we can enforce any clause we want. Global rules apply.

Section 1: Building

Paragraph A: Basics

Clifftown is a semi-freebuild area; therefore, each build belongs to its builder, but the rights of ownership may be seised by the mayor in prosecution of public interest or the government's interest. This is specifically is used to clean up unfinished builds, but it may be applied in other special cases. The owner will be informed if that is possible ahead of time. One may object this decision prior to it being made. In special cases, the decision may be undone and an admin will help roll the build back.

Paragraph B: Claims

An individual may claim any spot on the cliff or on the adjacent land or water to create their build. One's claim is by default indefinite in size, unless bound by neighbouring builds or other markers. A claim within Clifftown may not exceed the boundaries of the town, and any such constructions shall be considered separate builds even if built by the same person in a unified timeframe.

Certain areas of land might be claimed by the town entity and/or set out to be plain, which means one may not build there.

Paragraph C: Shops

Any building which contains a shop barrel is considered a shop. All shops are required to follow the following guidelines:

 • Be located close to an enderchest*
 • Have clear signage
 • Not use a farm in Clifftown for stock**
Clarifications:

* An enderchest doesn't have to be inside the shop. It, however, must be easily accessible within walking distance

** A shop may use a farm to create/craft something else, but selling the resources as is, is forbidden.

Section 2: Boundaries

The Clifftown border is marked by a cherry fence. Most of the time, you will see a welcome/goodbye sign on it. The fence doesn't have to be continuous, if it is understood that the border follows a straight line. The border extends from bedrock to build height, unless deliberately specified.

The town's borders may be adjusted upon request, if a planned build exceeds them, or to include a different build to be a part of an existing one.

Section 3: Conduct

In Clifftown, the residents are expected to be respectful of each other. Hence, actions that aren't yet covered by Rule 4 are also prohibited. These include stealing from unlocked chests, PvPing in undesignated areas/without consent and possibly other malicious actions. Such behaviours may be reported, upon which it will be decided, whether one will be punished.

Buildings targeting other players to aggravate/offend them are also prohibited.

Section 4: Punishment

An offense outlined in the preceding sections can be punished for in the following ways:

 • Being issued a fine
 • Seizure of property
 • Eviction
 • Banishment
 • Collective punishment
Being issued a fine

A fine can be issued for stealing, PvPing or failing to meet the conditions for a shop. If an offense is committed multiple times, the fine will grow, until progressing to a more severe punishment. If a fine is not payed in 30 days, another punishment is issued.

Seizure of property

One's property can be seized for not paying a fine for the aforementioned offenses, directly for them in especially severe cases, or for building targeting structures. If a player doesn't have land in Clifftown, they can be banished.

Eviction

Eviction is a more severe form of property seizure, where every single build is confiscated, and all rights to collaborative builds are lost, even if that means removing that person from their home.

Banishment

When a person is banished, they are also usually, but not necessarily evicted. All crimes in a severe enough form will result in banishment.

Collective Punishment

If a player assisted in committing a crime, they will also get punished. Usually, it is a lesser punishment, or a lesser form of the one issued to the main offender. It can be equal, depending on the circumstances.

Sometimes, being associated with an offending individual may pose a threat of being punished. Small fines may be issued to people who are not trying to stop a repeating offender after committing serious enough crimes for an exceptionally large amount of times.

Section 5: This

These rules may change whenever I want and you can't do anything about it. You will also probably not be notified. You don't have to agree to any updated rules, if they update, and you don't have to remove your builds in such case. Just don't build more.
